SUCCESS STORIES

MEET DOUGLAS DAPO

I met Dr. Michael Worobiec several months ago, and I happened to mention to him that I had high cholesterol. Even though I am a runner and get plenty of exercise, I had not been able to get my cholesterol down. In June 2010, my blood test showed that my total cholesterol was 253 mg/dl and my LDL was 186 mg/dl. Dr. Worobiec said that this was easy to fix, and he talked to me about The Wellness Forum and a plant-based diet. He invited me to one of the free dinners and talks. I guess the old saying was true for me, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." I was ready to hear what Michael was sharing with me.

I started to eat mostly salads and vegetables, and cut out meat. I was already almost dairy-free. I stopped the desserts and juices. I was already drinking filtered water. I am five feet 8 ½ inches tall and weighed about 164/166 pounds. Even though I was training for a marathon, I could not get my weight below 160 pounds. Well, without even trying, the pounds began melting away. I've lost about 15-16 pounds and am now down to about 148 pounds. I feel a lot better and a lot lighter when I run.

I visited The Wellness Forum for the free dinner and heard Dr. Popper's presentation on diet and health. This visit helped to confirm that I was doing the right thing. I decided to join the Forum and take the Wellness 101 class. This encouraged me to keep doing the things I had started doing, and I told my instructor, Wendy Gabriel, that I was there to do something about my cholesterol.

Well, about 2 ½ months after changing my diet, I had my cholesterol tested and here are the results. My total cholesterol is now 129 mg/dl. My LDL is 78 mg/dl and my triglycerides are 58! I am so happy!
