What is Wellness Forum HealthcareTM

Wellness Forum HealthcareTM is defined as a comprehensive approach to health guided by these principles:

  • The primary objective of healthcare is to prevent, stop, and reverse disease whenever possible.
  • The causes of disease should be identified and addressed rather than mitigating symptoms.
  • While biomarkers are important and some of them should be measured regularly, progress is not measured entirely by changes in these markers - all methods of improving biomarkers do not result in improved long-term health outcomes.
  • Healthcare providers should base decisions to recommend any diagnostic test, procedure, drug, supplement, or other care based on two criteria:
    • Efficacy which is defined as improvement in long-term outcomes, not just short term changes in biomarkers or symptoms
    • A favorable risk/benefit ratio
  • Practitioners should endeavor to educate patients so they can make informed decisions about care. Patients do not take control of their health by doing what they are told, but rather understanding their choices. Information about health is not difficult to understand if explained properly and it is not boring; it is empowering! It is important for patients to not only understand what they are being told to do, but why they are being told to do it
  • Practitioners should model healthy behaviors for their patients; leading by example is the best way to motivate others, and integrity is necessary for building trust.
  • Practitioners should always remain respectful of patients' choices; the patient has the most at stake in any choice involving his/her body.
  • While diet is crucial in improving almost all health issues, practitioners recognize the importance of other types of care, including but not limited to modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, exercise, massage, physical therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture.
  • The ability to give constructive and responsible health advice requires gathering a lot of information about patients and spending an appropriate amount of time reviewing it with them.
  • Medications and isolated nutrient supplements should be used conservatively; only when necessary and for the shortest time possible.
  • Patients must be involved and active participants in their own care; practitioners and patients are partners in health.

Wellness Forum HealthcareTM Network

Practitioners qualify to be included in the Wellness Forum Healthcare Network by successfully completing the Diet and Lifestyle Intervention Course and submitting a detailed description of their practices to The Wellness Forum's staff for review. While The Wellness Forum does not want to interfere with the clinical judgment of any practitioner, those approved by The Wellness Forum follow the basic guidelines listed above.
