WELLNESS FORUM HEALTHCARETM NETWORK
What is Wellness Forum HealthcareTM
Wellness Forum HealthcareTM is defined as a comprehensive approach to health guided by these principles:
- The primary objective of healthcare is to prevent, stop, and reverse disease whenever possible.
- The causes of disease should be identified and addressed rather than mitigating symptoms.
- While biomarkers are important and some of them should be measured regularly, progress is not measured entirely by changes in these markers - all methods of improving biomarkers do not result in improved long-term health outcomes.
- Healthcare providers should base decisions to recommend any diagnostic test, procedure, drug, supplement, or other care based on two criteria:
- Efficacy which is defined as improvement in long-term outcomes, not just short term changes in biomarkers or symptoms
- A favorable risk/benefit ratio
- Practitioners should endeavor to educate patients so they can make informed decisions about care. Patients do not take control of their health by doing what they are told, but rather understanding their choices. Information about health is not difficult to understand if explained properly and it is not boring; it is empowering! It is important for patients to not only understand what they are being told to do, but why they are being told to do it
- Practitioners should model healthy behaviors for their patients; leading by example is the best way to motivate others, and integrity is necessary for building trust.
- Practitioners should always remain respectful of patients' choices; the patient has the most at stake in any choice involving his/her body.
- While diet is crucial in improving almost all health issues, practitioners recognize the importance of other types of care, including but not limited to modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, exercise, massage, physical therapy, chiropractic, and acupuncture.
- The ability to give constructive and responsible health advice requires gathering a lot of information about patients and spending an appropriate amount of time reviewing it with them.
- Medications and isolated nutrient supplements should be used conservatively; only when necessary and for the shortest time possible.
- Patients must be involved and active participants in their own care; practitioners and patients are partners in health.
Wellness Forum HealthcareTM Network
Practitioners qualify to be included in the Wellness Forum Healthcare Network by successfully completing the Diet and Lifestyle Intervention Course and submitting a detailed description of their practices to The Wellness Forum's staff for review. While The Wellness Forum does not want to interfere with the clinical judgment of any practitioner, those approved by The Wellness Forum follow the basic guidelines listed above.

After graduating from Keith Academy in Lowell, Massachusetts, Dr. Griffin attended Boston College where he received a B.S. in Biology. He then entered Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where he later completed his D.M.D.
Dr. Griffin is Chair of the Department of Periodontology at Tuft University, a large department at Tufts with forty-two faculty members and twenty-five residents. Dr. Griffin has academic appointments at two other universities. He has served as a Professor at the Forsyth Institute of Dental Research in Boston, and as an external examiner and consultant at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia and currently is a visiting professor at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and Jiaotung University in Shanghai.
Dr. Griffin's private practice offers a full repertoire of dental services, ranging from standard dental care to reconstructive surgery. His most interesting procedure involves an alternative to grafting tissue from the roof of the mouth in order to treat gum recession. This procedure is extremely painful, and the tissue does not match in color.
Instead, Dr. Griffin performs a procedure he developed at Tufts in which he uses platelet concentrate gel applied to a collagen membrane as the graft instead of using tissue from the roof of the mouth. The graft is soaked in the patient's platelets, using blood drawn in the same visit. Placed over the receding tooth root, the graft is then surgically secured.
In follow-up studies this procedure has been proven to be just as effective as grafting. Dr. Griffin has published numerous papers in dental journals about this and other topics.

Dedicated solely to nutrition and lifestyle medicine. The core concept is: utilization of the Food For Life curricula as the central approach to educating individuals and prospective patients. Anyone can take the classes, but individuals who wish to become patients must attend one or more class series, depending on their medical background.
An exercise physiologist will evaluate patients, in order to produce an exercise prescription, as well as in order to establish an ongoing relationship for future re-evaluation of the patient's progress.
A dietitian who is experienced in plant- based nutrition will provide follow up care and additional one-on-one education for patients who need additional information and support, beyond the physician encounter and the classes.
In addition to the mandatory classes and EP evaluation (see above), patients will have the options of attending group classes in
- Stress management techniques (a range of classes offered to address the various levels of patient competence and desire: breathing techniques, stretching class, yoga etc)
- Coping skills around food issues: food addictions, emotional aspects of eating etc.
Patients will be encouraged to attend such classes.
While anyone can attend/register for the various classes we offer, those who wish to become patients, will complete a 14 -page questionnaire and a seven day food journal at the beginning of the encounter. Basic laboratory tests will be reviewed (chem.-7, CBC, LFTs, TFT, lipid profile, UA), as well as available medical records, specific to the patient's medical history.
All types of chronic disease that are not infectious or traumatic in etiology, are eligible for evaluation and treatment.
Currently accepting patients and email correspondence is welcome.
